Pickleball Nepal Launches Junior Training Program to Nurture Young Talent
In a significant step towards developing the next generation of pickleball players, Pickleball Nepal has launched a Junior Training Program at the Satdobato Sports Complex in Lalitpur. The program, which is the first of its kind in the country, is specifically designed for players aged 10-18 and aims to introduce the sport to young enthusiasts while honing the skills of those with existing experience.
The program was inaugurated in the presence of sports dignitaries, including Pickleball Nepal President Ramesh Thapa, who emphasized the importance of early sports education. "Our vision is to create a strong foundation for pickleball in Nepal. By investing in our youth, we are ensuring a bright future for the sport," Thapa stated during the launch ceremony.
The Junior Training Program offers a well-structured curriculum, focusing on fundamental skills such as grip techniques, footwork, shot selection, and game strategy. Sessions are conducted by experienced coaches, including former national players, who provide personalized guidance to each participant. In addition to on-court training, the program includes fitness sessions to enhance agility, strength, and endurance.
One of the highlights of the program is its scholarship initiative, which aims to support talented young players from underprivileged backgrounds. Pickleball Nepal has partnered with local sponsors to offer free training, equipment, and travel allowances to deserving students. "Talent should not be limited by financial constraints. We want to give every passionate player a chance to shine," said Anjali Shrestha, Head Coach of the program.
Parents and players have responded enthusiastically, with over 100 registrations within the first week. Many parents expressed appreciation for the opportunity, seeing it as a positive platform for their children to stay active and develop discipline. Pickleball Nepal plans to expand the program to other cities, including Pokhara and Bhaktapur, in the coming months, furthering its mission to promote pickleball nationwide.
