Nepali Pickleball Team Shines at South Asian Pickleball Tournament

Nepal’s national pickleball team has made the country proud by delivering a stellar performance at the South Asian Pickleball Tournament held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Competing against formidable teams from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, the Nepali players secured an impressive haul of three gold and two silver medals, solidifying Nepal's position as an emerging force in the regional pickleball circuit.

Under the leadership of team captain Sita Gurung, the Nepali contingent displayed remarkable skill and determination. Gurung herself won gold in the women’s singles category, outclassing opponents with her agility and precise shot placement. The mixed doubles team of Ramesh Shrestha and Sita Gurung clinched another gold medal, while the men’s doubles pair of Suman Karki and Arjun Basnet earned the third gold with a hard-fought victory over the Sri Lankan team.

In addition to their gold medal wins, Nepali players also bagged two silver medals, further showcasing their versatility and competitive spirit. Head coach Prakash Shrestha credited the team’s success to their disciplined training regimen, which included intensive drills, tactical preparation, and mental conditioning. "Our players have shown that with the right guidance and dedication, we can compete at the highest levels," Shrestha commented.

The victory has sparked a wave of excitement among sports enthusiasts in Nepal, with many young players expressing interest in taking up pickleball. Pickleball Nepal has already announced plans to capitalize on this momentum by organizing more training camps, establishing a national league, and promoting the sport in schools and communities nationwide. The team’s success has undoubtedly set a new standard for Nepali pickleball and inspired a new generation of players.
